Catamounts Claim 3–1 Victory Over Allegany College of Maryland

Keyser, W.Va. – The WVU Potomac State Catamounts Men's Soccer team continued their strong start to the season with a 3–1 win over Allegany College of Maryland on Thursday evening at Stayman Field.

The Catamounts struck early, with Cesar Sales opening the scoring in the 7th minute on a fantastic unassisted effort. Allegany responded in the 32nd minute with a goal from Riley McCutcheon, leveling the match at 1–1. Just minutes later, Jean Wicarl Vales reclaimed the lead for Potomac State with a solo goal in the 37th minute.

In the second half, the Catamounts sealed the win when Mateo Miranda found the back of the net in the 78th minute, assisted by Vales. Potomac State controlled much of the match, outshooting Allegany 19–12 and earning eight corner kicks to Allegany's five.

Goalkeeper Justin Leclerc anchored the defense with four saves, while Allegany's Levi Carrington recorded six saves in a busy outing. The Catamounts' attack was led by Emiliano Romero, who registered three shots on goal, and Miranda, who tallied two shots on target and a goal.

The match saw a physical tone, with six yellow cards issued—five to Allegany and one to Potomac State.

With the win, WVU Potomac State improves to 2–1–0 on the season and will welcome Anne Arundel Community College to Stayman Field on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
