Late-Inning Swing Shifts Game 1 as Catamounts Battle Through Doubleheader Against Monroe

Game 1 – Monroe 5, Potomac State 2

WVU Potomac State jumped out early, but a late surge by Monroe proved to be the difference as the Catamounts fell 5-2 in the opener.

Potomac State manufactured runs in the second inning, capitalizing on situational execution. An RBI single from Makayla Irvin, paired with productive at-bats including a sacrifice from Alaira Harrington, gave the Catamounts a 2-0 advantage despite recording just two hits in the contest.

In the circle, Lacie Miller delivered a steady start, working five innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out five. She kept Monroe off the board through five frames, navigating traffic and limiting damage to give Potomac State control into the late innings.

Monroe broke through in the sixth, stringing together key hits to plate five runs and flip the momentum. Delaney Randolph came on in relief and recorded three strikeouts over the final two innings.

Offensively, Olivia Julian and Irvin accounted for the Catamounts' two hits, with Irvin driving in a run. Potomac State pitching held Monroe scoreless through five, but the sixth-inning swing proved decisive.


Game 2 – Monroe 11, Potomac State 2 (5 innings)

The Catamounts showed flashes offensively in Game 2, highlighted by a power swing from Carlee Haines, but ultimately fell 11-2 in five innings.

Haines provided the biggest moment for Potomac State, launching a home run in the third inning to put the Catamounts on the board. She finished with a hit and an RBI, while also scoring a run. Additional hits came from Katelyn Cooper, Delaney Randolph, and Skyla Compton, as Potomac State totaled four hits in the game.

Lacie Miller got the start in the circle, tossing three innings, while McKinlea Hill worked in relief over the final two frames. Despite Monroe building an early lead, the Catamounts continued to compete, adding a run in the fourth inning and putting balls in play throughout.

Defensively, Potomac State battled through adversity, with multiple players seeing time across the field as the Catamounts worked to slow Monroe's offensive rhythm.


Potomac State will look to regroup as they continue their homestand, aiming to build on early-game execution and key individual performances as they move forward.
