Keyser, W.Va. - Potomac State College softball delivered an impressive all-around performance on Thursday, sweeping Penn State Mont Alto in dominant fashion behind explosive offense and strong pitching efforts. The Catamounts totaled 21 runs across the two games, powered by timely hitting and multiple home runs.
Game 1 – WVU Potomac State 10, Penn State Mont Alto 5
The Catamounts wasted no time setting the tone in Game 1, plating four runs across the first two innings to take early control. Freshman standout Skyla Compton jumpstarted the offense with a two-run single in the opening frame, while Alyssa Abel and Adison Pritts contributed RBI hits in the second to extend the lead.
Potomac State continued to apply pressure throughout the game, highlighted by a power surge in the middle innings. Compton launched a two-run home run in the fourth, while Olivia Julian, Abel, and Katelyn Cooper each added home runs to fuel the Catamounts' 10-run output. Compton led the way with four RBIs, while Abel delivered a perfect 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs. Pritts added two hits, including a pair of doubles, and Cooper chipped in with a multi-hit effort and a home run.
In the circle, Delaney Randolph earned the win, improving to 14-2 on the season. Randolph tossed five innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out six. Lacie Miller closed out the game, securing the final six outs.
Game 2 – WVU Potomac State 11, Penn State Mont Alto 3
Game 2 saw the Catamounts overcome an early deficit before erupting offensively once again. After falling behind 2-0, Potomac State responded in the third inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs from Jaianna Wickline, Maddie Fields, and Pritts to quickly seize the lead.
The Catamounts broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs behind clutch hitting. Pritts delivered a two-run single, while Cooper added a two-run home run to extend the advantage. Potomac State continued to tack on runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Compton and an RBI double from Pritts, pushing the final margin to 11-3.
Pritts paced the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Compton added three RBIs of her own. Fields scored three runs and homered, and Wickline contributed a home run and scored twice. In the circle, Randolph started and struck out five over three innings, allowing no earned runs. Miller earned the win in relief, improving to 10-4 after allowing just one run across three innings.
Potomac State showcased its depth and firepower throughout the doubleheader, combining for eight home runs and consistent run production. The Catamounts will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their season.
