Catamounts Split Road Doubleheader at Cecil, Rally Late in Game Two Victory

Keyser, W.Va. - The Potomac State College softball team battled through a competitive road doubleheader at Cecil College, dropping a tight opener before responding with a late-game surge to earn a split. The Catamounts showed resilience in game two, scoring six runs over the final two innings to secure the win.


Game 1: Cecil College 3, WVU Potomac State 0

Potomac State was held scoreless in the opener despite recording six hits, as Cecil capitalized on a key third inning to take control. The Catamounts scattered hits throughout the game, including efforts from Maddie Fields, Skyla Compton, Katelyn Cooper, Alyssa Abel, and Jaianna Wickline, but were unable to string together scoring opportunities.

Cecil broke through in the third inning with a three-run frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double and an RBI single to account for all of the game's scoring. In the circle, Delaney Randolph delivered a solid outing, going six innings while allowing three runs and striking out six. She kept the Catamounts within striking distance throughout, but Potomac State could not generate the timely hit.


Game 2: WVU Potomac State 6, Cecil College 4

The Catamounts responded in game two with a gritty comeback, using a four-run seventh inning to rally past Cecil. Trailing 3-0 entering the sixth, Potomac State got on the board as Maddie Fields scored and Jaianna Wickline came around on an error to cut the deficit to one. The momentum carried into the seventh inning, where the Catamounts capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting.

McKinlea Hill delivered the biggest hit of the game with a two-RBI single to give Potomac State its first lead. Wickline followed with an RBI double, and another Cecil error allowed an additional run to score, extending the lead. Fields led the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Wickline added a hit, two runs, and an RBI. Hill's two RBIs proved pivotal in the comeback effort.

In the circle, Lacie Miller went the distance, allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out seven to earn the win.
