Keyser, W.Va. - The Potomac State softball team closed out an impressive postseason run Sunday afternoon, finishing as the 2026 NJCAA Region 20 Runner-Up after falling to Cecil College, 11-6, in the Region 20 Championship game.
The championship matchup was played through a rain delay as the Catamounts battled until the final out against Cecil in the tournament finale.
Potomac State finishes the season with a Region 20 Runner-Up finish and saw three players recognized for their performances throughout the tournament, as sophomore Skyla Compton and freshmen Delaney Randolph and Jaianna Wickline earned NJCAA Region 20 All-Tournament Team honors.
The Catamounts came out strong early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind a two-run RBI single from Katelyn Cooper that scored Compton and Adison Pritts.
Cecil answered with two runs in the fourth inning before using a six-run fifth to take control of the contest. The Seahawks added three more runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead.
Potomac State continued to battle offensively late in the game, beginning in the sixth inning when Alyssa Abel launched a two-run home run to left field. The Catamounts added two more runs in the seventh as Compton connected on a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 11-6.
Compton led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance that included a home run, double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Maddie Fields also collected two hits, while Cooper drove in two runs in the opening inning. Abel added a two-run homer, and Wickline contributed a hit and walk in the championship effort.
Randolph and Lacie Miller combined to work all seven innings in the circle for Potomac State, with Randolph striking out six across 4.1 innings of work.
The Region 20 Runner-Up finish caps off a strong season for the Catamounts (33-7), highlighted by a deep postseason run and multiple standout individual performances throughout the tournament.
