Catamounts Impress in Inaugural Campaign at Region 20 Championships

Columbia, Md. - WVU Potomac State Track & Field turned in an impressive performance in its first season of competition at the 2026 NJCAA Region 20/Mid-Atlantic Championships on April 10–11. The Catamount women placed 4th overall—at one point just one point shy of the lead in a three-way race for second—while the men finished 6th overall, showcasing depth and resilience across the board.

Championship Performances Lead the Way

Phoebe McCann highlighted the weekend with a 1st-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase (13:46.20), earning First-Team All-Region 20 honors and the program's first individual regional title. McCann also teamed with Cassidy Cumberledge, Baylee Jarrett, and Avah Shrout to win the women's 4x400m relay (5:11.20), earning additional First-Team All-Region 20 recognition.

In the field, Tanner Detrick claimed gold in the pole vault (3.65m) to earn First-Team All-Region 20, while Alek Detrick secured 2nd place (3.50m) to earn Second-Team All-Region 20.
