Rockville, MD — The WVU Potomac State College Volleyball team fell in straight sets to Montgomery College (MD) on Saturday afternoon, 25-21, 25-6, 25-21.
The Catamounts (0-2) opened the match with energy, jumping out to a 12-5 lead in the first set behind strong play from Elliana Mosby, Ashton Spiker, and Christianna Sledge. Mosby recorded multiple kills and blocks early, while setter Victoria Lester distributed the ball effectively. Despite the early momentum, Montgomery rallied to take the set 25-21.
Set two saw Montgomery dominate from the service line and at the net, limiting Potomac State to just six points. The Raptors hit .421 in the frame and used a string of aces and kills to pull away.
In the third set, the Catamounts regrouped and battled point-for-point. Sledge and Mosby continued to lead offensively, and Daija Wright added a service ace during a mid-set run that tied the score at 15-15. However, Montgomery closed the match with a late surge to secure the sweep.
Christianna Sledge and Elliana Mosby each led the team with six kills, while Mosby also added 13 digs. Ashton Spiker contributed three kills and four digs. Victoria Lester paced the offense with 18 assists. Defensively, Mosby and Sledge anchored the back row, and Sarah Iman added a solo block and a block assist. Daija Wright chipped in with a service ace.
The Catamounts return to action looking to build on their early-season experience as they return home to face off against Allegany College of Maryland on Wednesday, September 10th, 2025 at 7pm.
